After speaking to people with dementia and their carers, I realised that independence is a huge issue for this group. They want to live an independent lifestyle, but the nature of their condition makes this very difficult.

The most common symptom of dementia is short-term memory loss and this makes it hard for people with dementia to remember what they have to do throughout the day. The product I have developed here aids the user in remembering daily tasks. This means that they no longer require the intervention of carers and will therefore feel more confident.

Rather than focusing on the skills that people with dementia lose as their condition progresses, I have considered abilities that are retained. The product uses simple sensory messages to communicate with the user. Repeated use of the same sensory cues will enable the user to learn automatic responses.
